Globally, the movie starring Timothée Chalamet has earned an impressive $139.4 million from IMAX screenings.
In China, ‘Godzilla x Kong’ earned $4.4 million during the country’s holiday weekend from 734 screens. Out of the $9.7 million the film earned over the weekend globally, North America contributed $3 million, bringing the total IMAX earnings in the region to $13.7 million. In comparison, ‘Dune: Part Two‘ earned $1.25 million from IMAX screens domestically, totaling $64.3 million in IMAX earnings since its release.
‘Dune: Part Two’ and Godzilla Share the IMAX Spotlight With More Global Blockbusters
“Dune: Part Two has become the 7th highest-grossing IMAX release in the U.S. and Canada, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home. Out of the $2.8 million earned over the weekend, $1.25 million came from domestic screens and $1.6 million from international, bringing the movie’s international IMAX total to $75.1 million.
Apart from monster and desert adventures, Studio Ghibli’s ‘The Boy and The Heron’ made an impressive debut in China, earning $2.5 million at the IMAX box office despite sharing screens with other international hits. Additionally, ‘Oppenheimer’ had a brief IMAX run in Japan, adding $450 thousand to its total IMAX earnings, reaching $1.6 million in Japan and $189.4 million worldwide.
Looking ahead, IMAX is gearing up for the release of diverse films, including A24’s ‘Civil War’ and the K-Pop concert film ‘Suga – August D Tour “D-Day” The Movie.’
